The Iraqi Constitutional Referendum


All eyes on Iraq today. This is where democracy could bloom in the Middle East.

Fingers crossed for the next big step.

Notice I didn't say the last step, or that everything will be hunky dory after the election,

We still won't know if democracy and free markets "took" until the first children born after the fall of Saddam Hussein are old enough to vote themselves.

And before you get too antsy, remember that it took the United States ninety years and a Civil War to get it mostly right.

I pray that the Iraqis are strong enough to make their own choices and do what must be done.
