War On Drugs

I've tried writing this entry several times over the last week or so. But every time I came off as a self-righteous prig.

I was going to tell you how shutting down Oklahoma meth labs resulted in a five fold increase of crystal ice seizures, showing that the drugs are still readily available.

I was going to point out that doctors are afraid to give pain medication to their patients.

I was going to point out how the War On Drugs has had almost exactly the same results as Prohibition, including a skyrocketing crime rate and overburdened prisons.

I was going to provide statistics, charts, maps.

Instead I will settle for questions.

Why does the government restrict the drugs you can use but not your bathroom cleanser?

Why are alcohol beverages legal but not some drugs?

What gives your neighbors the power to decide what you can medicate yourself with but doesn't give them the power to decide what you will be having for dinner tonight?

Why do we want to abandon morality to a government that consistently proves itself to be immoral?
