Nagin says God is mad at America

Another politico hiding behind religion

So let me get this straight. Not only does Ray Nagin claim to speak for the "black community in America" and for New Orleans in particular, he now has a direct line to the Christian God and is a bona fide prophet.

"Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country," Nagin, who is black, said as he and other city leaders marked Martin Luther King Day.

"Surely he doesn't approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We're not taking care of ourselves."

Nagin also promised that New Orleans will be a "chocolate" city again. Many of the city's black neighborhoods were heavily damaged by Katrina.

"It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans," the mayor said. "This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans."

Mmm hmmmm. Right.

First, he is not speaking of my gods. And I know many Christians who would deny Mr. Nagin's statements.

The bald faced audacity of this man, who chooses Dr. King's birthday to sound the call for a SEGREGATED city. I read the words and I flash on George Wallace. This is nothing more than a desperate politico trying to cash in on the memory of a dead man, while denying everything that man stood for.

WHILE DENYING EVERYTHING THAT MAN EVER STOOD FOR.

Racism is racism, regardless of if you are the politically approved minority or not.

Hat tip to LaShawn Barber, who raises a very good point. How many liberals and progressives will go after Mr. Nagin for his statements? Even after they went after Falwell and Roberson?
