Definitions (redo)

What is the difference between a leftist and a liberal?

Joe Miller writes on what he thinks distinguishes a (classic) liberal from a leftist.

My own definitions are a bit more rough and ready. If you want to compel behavior to help someone else's economic or social condition, then you are a leftist. Or what I have called a modern liberal.
