cry.
Rogier van Bakel at Nobody's Business tells us that all UK kids are going to be fingerprinted and entered into a national database. Michael at the Real ID Rebellion writes on how the US program is shaping up. The news is not good. Not only are there no Federal guidelines in place to define the National ID Cards that will be issued under the REAL ID Act we can see that the early adopters, (who are saddling taxpayers with the bills) are showing us what is truly in store. I recently wrote about the myriad troubles that are plaguing Alabama in their misguided attempt to be an early adopter of the REAL ID fiasco, (at a guess so they'll be first in line for tax dollar welfare day) and you'd think that those issues couldn't get worse. We'd be wrong, very wrong. It seems as if things have gone downhill, as they now have experienced at least one system failure and there is no reason to suspect that it will not happen again. I've said it before. The government has no need to track everyone's identity information. The whole thing comes because of the income tax law and the assumption that you are guilty until proven innocent. Think about it. Before the 20th Century version of the income tax, there was no justification for government to keep records on you, or to require your bank to spy on you, or have you affirm "under penalty of law" every year without having you charged with a crime. Real ID is just the logical conclusion to all that government monitoring. Without your permission, without your ability to change inaccurate information, and without you being able to fight it. Folks, this is the only chance you are going to have. Once enough states have implemented Real ID to show that it "works," it will be unstoppable. You can either fight it now before your state puts it in place, or you can try to be survive later.
