Iran arming Iraqi Shiite radicals

Look to what Iran and Syria are DOING, not what they are saying

Here's something else that you won't see in most of the Western press. Iran is arming Shiite extremists to destabilize Iraq.

"I think it is irrefutable that Iran is responsible for training, funding and equipping some of these Shia extremist groups, and also providing advanced IED technology," said Brigadier General Michael Barbero, using the acronym for "improvised explosive devices."

"And there is clear evidence of that," he added at a Pentagon press conference.

The important question is why.

Iran can't afford a stable and democratic government in Iraq. Too many of it's own people will start asking questions.

Iran can't afford a secular government in Lebanon.

All of this is a delaying tactic until Iran gets a nuclear missile.

Syria has it's own concerns, and can't afford for the Lebanon border to be closed to weapons shipments.

Without a nuclear capability, both Syria and Iran depend embarrassing the West. It's not that far removed from counting coup. If Israel is not at least massively shamed, the leaders in Iran and Syria lose face and power. Hezbollah is just one tool in the war.

The name of the game right now is delay. There was never any real intent for the UN to follow through with the ceasefire. There are only a handful of military forces who are capable of enforcing it. And for political and diplomatic reasons, the United States can't be part of that force.

Meanwhile, watch the people (NOT the leaders) in Iran. Internal pressures haven't reached the boiling point yet, but it is getting hotter.
