"Commander In Chief"

My reactions to the new series

I am catching up on my VCR backlog.

The critics are right, this DOES play like a Hillary 2008 commercial.

It even has a few nods to the 2004 campaign. It even starts with a children's choir singing "America the Beautiful." In French no less. And it nods to Harry Truman as well.

There is not a single Republican or conservative in this show who is a decent human being. Even the President character in the beginning only chose a woman as his running mate only did it to push up his numbers among women. And he admitted that if a woman helped his naked power lust, it would still get a woman in office. The President character even has a trophy wife.

And the Speaker of the House character is much worse, talking about giving Islamic countries edicts.

All of the Vice-President's staff are portrayed as idealistic dreamers who have a chance to "make history."

But let's look at the message that the show sends.

First, a liberal woman can only get elected to the Vice Presidency by claiming to be an independent and with the help of a strong Republican President.

Second, that liberals can't be honest about their agenda to the American people.

Third, that appearance is more important than reality.

Fourth, that feelings are more important than facts.

Fifth, "I was never on the inside." Anyone who believes that about Hillary (which was the intent) doesn't know much about how the Clintons spent their thirty years in office as co-politicians.

I don't think this show is going to do terribly well in the ratings. After all, if you are going to make a group of people villians, you can only have good drama if you make them interesting villians.

But then, it wasn't meant to be a business success, was it?
