Democrats need more than one issue as a touchstone

Fortunately, some Senators see the need to expand the discussion beyond abortion

All I can say is that I am glad to see this happening.

Some Democrats, even those who strongly favor abortion rights, have come to question the undue emphasis on Roe, as well their reliance on the courts to protect the right to an abortion. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), a former constitutional law professor, said in an interview that "this narrowing of attention isn't a healthy thing" for the Democratic Party.

"To the degree to which all that's talked about is Roe, I think Democrats miss an opportunity to make broader points to the American people that would be relevant," Obama said.

I'm happy to see it not because I support the Democrat party, but because I think the Democrats have sacrificed to hold onto the "core constituency" of abortion rights. There has to be more to the Democrats than abortion and "get Bush." If there isn't, then the Democrats are just going through the motions.
