Ranting about the news

A gun control story gets my dander up

Yesterday while channel surfing and waiting for "unexpected" company, I briefly saw a show talking about the rise of mass murderers in recent years.

Sure enough, one of the canards that was dragged out was the widespread availability of guns and how they should be regulated more.

The problem isn't that guns are available, the problem is that mass murderers have a good idea of where guns are and where they are not.

To use two very obvious examples, if guns are illegal at post offices and public schools, then that is where the targets are.

Libertarians tend to call gun control laws as victim disarmament laws. There is a point to that. A .45 makes a very persuasive argument when you are a 115 pound lady facing down a 225 pound rapist. He doesn't even have to know how good the lady is.

If there were enough guns around, he wouldn't know who was armed and who was not. In cities where it is legal to carry a concealed weapon, the per capita violent crime rate drops. It is a trade off though, the property crime rate rises.

Your money or your life?
