Speeding across the border

The White House compares illegal immigration to breaking the speed limit

I know that I am beginning to sound like a broken record, but for crying out loud! Why have a law at all?

The White House on Friday said a Senate bill that would grant legal status to illegal immigrants is analogous to a traffic law that allows a speeder to pay a fine and continue driving.

"If you had a traffic ticket and you paid it, you're not forever a speeder, are you?" White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said in response to questions from The Examiner.

"So the fact is, you have paid your debt to society," he added. "And we have come up with a way to make sure that the debt to society gets paid. Then you move forward."

If the President thinks it's a bad law, then he should ask Congress to repeal it or the courts to overturn it.

But that is not what he is doing.

President Bush wants to make an exemption for a SPECIFIC ethnic group, without regard to existing law or the immigration status of non-Mexicans.

Imagine two immigrants.

One is from Somalia.

One is from Mexico.

If the Mexican is going to be granted special status just because of he is Mexican, why should the Somalian follow the law?

Why should one subgroup of criminals get a break from the law?

Why should that subgroup follow ANY law if their behavior is just going to be excused?

And why go after the employers if you are going to overlook the illegal immigrants?

Hat tip to Tammy Bruce.
