Using "morality" to decide who gets help

Some businesses aren't "good" enough to get Katrina reconstruction funds

Funny how it went from rebuilding businesses and people's lives to only rebuilding the "good" businesses.

House Republicans decided Tuesday to stop casinos, massage parlors and liquor stores from cashing in on tax breaks for businesses in Gulf Coast communities ravaged by hurricanes.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., lead the movement to carve those businesses out of any special tax incentives intended to lure jobs and commerce back to the region.

“Federal tax dollars need to be focused on those who truly need the government’s help, like the poor, vulnerable and elderly,” Wolf said in a statement on the House floor.

I wasn't exactly in favor of using Federal money to rebuild anyway, but this is law makers making a "moral" decision based on their beliefs. In other words, binding church and state closer together. With one amendment, lawmakers decided to impose a religious test before someone can get aid.

Never mind that those businesses provide a sizable portion of the tax base in New Orleans, those businesses aren't "moral."

They are doing this for your own good, don't you know.
