Blaming the rich

Hillary Clinton drags out an old saw

This, friends, is what you call a disconnect from reality.

"The economy is working really well for many people,'' Clinton, a New York Democrat, said today. "But if you look just over the horizon and below the surface there are some troubling issues.''

In an interview previewing a major speech she will give tomorrow at the Chicago Economic Club, Clinton said, ``the rich are getting richer, everybody else is marching in place'' and ``I don't think that's good for us.''

A couple of obvious points.

First, Bill and Hillary Clinton may not be in the super multibillionaire class, but they are a long way from being middle class.

Second, this is a desperate attempt to incite class envy.

Third and most important, you can't get richer without USING the resources you have. If you fill a room with cash, it doesn't magically generate more cash. You have to put your money to work. That means purchasing goods and services and loaning capital. That means the money goes BACK into the economy.

Bill Gates can't make more money without paying the people he has working for him or buying the rights to an existing product. He has to pump money out to take money in.
