Free market ignorance

And these people are allowed to vote

I am amazed.

In a discussion on the gas prices, I pointed out that part of the increased cost was because of legislation passed last year.

I also pointed out that the average profit per gallon of gasoline was 7 cents, while the Federal tax on that same gallon was 18.4 cents. That is not including the state and local taxes. New York for example tacks on 31.9 cents, making a total gas tax of 50.3 cents per gallon of gasoline. Other states aren't quite so bad.

Then someone said that it just goes to show that clearly demonstrated that free market economics will always find a way to do the highest possible amount of harm.

Excuse me?

Where do these ideas get started?

And why don't these people listen to logic?

It is not free market economics that has created the problem. It is government interference in the free market.

Increased regulation = increased cost of production = increased price to consumer.

Taxes higher than profit (and the various governments assume NO liability).

Government is blaming the oil companies for the government's mistakes.

And some people buy into it, only too willing to hand over more money and more authority.

If these suckers weren't going to drag the rest of us into the hole, I'd say let them fend for themselves.
