Stick the neighbors with the bill

California's new health care plan depends heavily on Federal funds

I missed an important bit when I was reading about the California health plan yesterday. Fortunately, today's San Francisco Chronicle covers it pretty well.

Key to paying for the $12 billion proposal is an increase of nearly $5.5 billion in federal funds that would come from raising the rates by which hospitals and doctors are reimbursed through Medicaid, the state-federal program for the sick and indigent known as Medi-Cal in California, and by making more people eligible for state government coverage.

But some health industry experts question whether the funding source is assured.

"To try to make the assumption that the money is going to drop out of the sky from Washington is unrealistic," said Jeffrey Miles, spokesman for the California Association of Health Underwriters.

Got that?

California can't cover the bill, and Schwarzenegger knows that.

He's already expecting the American taxpayer to pick up the rest.

What are you willing to sacrifice for California's health care if you don't live in California?
