Using "rights" to sieze power over others

When defending "religious rights" means that others have to give up their choice to live under yours, you are advocating tyranny.

Look deep at the "moral" arguments this election season in the U.S. and you soon run into someone who wants to take freedom and choice away in the name of religious freedom. Like this.

Gov. Mitt Romney displayed the enthusiasm of a preacher Sunday at a Baptist church as he addressed an anti-gay marriage rally of conservative religious leaders who argue that their rights to religious expression are being threatened.

"Their" rights. It is not a right at all, just the power to dictate to others.

No one is requiring them to enter a gay marriage.

In fact, it shouldn't have anything to do with them.

This is one that fails the pairity test big time.

Starhawk was right. "Power with instead of power over." I'll add a libertarian sentiment to that. I'd rather have allies than slaves.

I've said before that I did not think it was an accident that we face True Believers™ domestically as we face Islamist terrorists worldwide. They are responding to similar motives. Diversity is our strength, and willing choices are the only way to unite.

When your faith requires others to sacrifice in the name of your morality, others who have not chosen your religion, it's really just you imposing your religion by force of law. That is tyranny, no matter what you choose to call it.
